Jan Harr was born May 18, 1945 in Harstad, Norway. He was educated at the Oslo National College of Art and Design (1964–66), at Hadeland Glassverk (1967) and at the Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts (1970–73) under Reidar Aulie. He debuted in the Young Artists' Society in 1967 and is considered one of the young neo-romantics.
