About the Item
Artist Comments
"Ocracoke is a small island off the coast of North Carolina," says artist Jay Jensen. "These islands are referred to as the Outer Banks. Ocracoke is special in that it is only reachable by ferry and is protected almost in its entirety by the National Parks Service. The beaches stretch out as far as the eye can see and are pristine. I worked to capture that feeling of infinite space."
About the Artist
Jay Jensen enjoys capturing the unique magic of a dramatic sky or the late afternoon light. He currently lives in Canada and has been influenced by the work of Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth. Jay considers himself a figurative painter, but particularly loves painting ocean views. He does a lot of glazing which make his works even more luminous in person.

This piece was inspired by the desire to linger near or in warm tropical waters, watching the mesmerizing patterns of light refractions as they move with the currents.
