Jeff Sabol, "Up River", 24x18 Misty Atmospheric Rowboat Oil Painting on Canvas

2021

About the Item

This piece "Up River" is a 24x18" oil painting on canvas by artist Jeffrey Sabol. Featured is a misty waterscape with muted light creating a green and calm atmospheric effect. A singular red and yellow rowboat is leaning on shore, surrounded by evergreen trees and grass. About the Artist: Jeffrey Sabol is an artist and a sailor. Years of experience as a long liner have given him tremendous respect for Mother Nature. Mr. Sabol’s paintings offer the viewer a respite from their busy lives to a place of quiet reflection. His art is a tribute to the ‘weekend warriors’ who sail local waters in search of a quiet piece of harbor in which to relax and unwind from their busy lives onshore. His unique interpretation of line and shadow lend the stark realism of his paintings. His work is an exercise in tranquility. The artist grew up near the mouth of the Housatonic River where drawing and boating were a part of everyday life. After studying architectural design, Jeffrey settled into the life of a ‘snowbird’, wintering in Key West, where he worked as a commercial fisherman, long-lining and shrimping in the Gulf of Mexico. His memorable encounters of gales at sea were his motivation to ‘paint’ boats rather than work on them! He also worked as a commissioned artist doing Murals, most notably the Swimming hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, FL under the stewardship of W.Linzee Prescott, where the two completed 12 separate murals in almost 2 years. Jeffrey has been the recipient of numberous awards, including the "Maritime Award of Exellence” at the International Marine Art Exhibition at the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport. Judges Peter Benchley, Margaret Trombley and Dan Finamore recognized “Crow Brothers, Tilghman Island, Maryland” as an outstanding example of creativity, insight and integrity in Marine Art. Additionally, for his documentation and preservation of maritime heritage, Mr. Sabol has been awarded the "Rudolph J. Schaefer Maritime Heritage Award" at Mystic Seaport as well. Jeffrey Sabol is a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists.
