THE ARTIST:
Johannes Schiefer (1896–1979) was a German-American painter known for his versatile approach to still life, portraiture, and landscape. Trained at prestigious European institutions including the Düsseldorf Academy and Beaux-Arts in Paris, Schiefer traveled and exhibited widely across Europe and the Americas before settling in the U.S. His style reflects a post-impressionist sensibility fused with classical draftsmanship and luminous color. His collectors have included Ethel Kennedy and members of the international art elite, and his works have appeared in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum, and the County Museum of Los Angeles.
