Reminiscent of the great romanticists of the 19th century, Peter Hoffer’s landscapes are a blend of realism and impressionism. His series of tree ‘portraits’ imbues each tree with a distinct ‘personality’ accentuated by his process. Hoffer uses scratches, markings, paint drippings, and thick coats of resin to add character to each mixed media piece. The result is thoroughly modern. This horizontal landscape offers a commanding view of the surrounding countryside-verdant green fields and a turquoise blue sky.
The viewer’s eye is drawn to the lone tree in the middle of the canvas captured at the height of the season in bright pinks.
