About the Item
The original oil painting, "Red Vines" is an impressionistic view of a woman sweeping the walkway in front of a building covered in red vines. Cook use of vibrant red hues draws your attention to the vines climbing the side of the building. John Cook gives the painting realistic and lively view of the scene with the bright sky and shadows covering the sidewalk and corners of the building.
By drawing with a brush rather than a pencil, Cook achieves the loose and free style that characterizes his work. Never belabored, each painting reflects his passion to catch a mood with interplay of light and shade. Nothing is too large or small to attempt, as reflected in his diverse range of subject matter: from still life to portraits to landscapes, architecture and native Texas-Western imagery. “A kind of impatient realism,” is how Cook describes his paintings. Action and energy permeate his canvases and there is a spontaneous nature to his work that retells the artist’s need to quickly achieve the essence of light as it dances, pierces, careens, and bounces to find its way throughout the subject. Cook states, “as for my style, if I could do a painting in less than sixty seconds I would be pleased. Sometimes I feel the urgency to attack a canvas and capture the intensity of my mind and emotions without respecting the necessary effort for the image to be valued as ‘fine art.’” Trips to London, Paris, San Francisco and Belgium also produced many of Cook’s paintings.

"Petit Mur En Brique Rouge", Albert Bertalan, Original Antique Green Landscape
By Albert Bertalan
Located in Dallas, TX
"Petit Mur En Brique Rouge" is an original antique impressionistic landscape painting by Albert Bertalan. This painting has a beautiful Paris rural neighborhood with red brick surrounded in lush green landscape and flowers. It is framed in an ornate gold frame.
From the late 19th century until World War Two, Paris was the center of the art world. Artists and intellectuals from around the globe descended on Paris, drawn by the atmosphere of creative freedom established by the French Impressionists. Because of the Impressionists’ innovations the direction of art had changed forever, the times were ripe for another Renaissance. The School of Paris, as this broad based group of artists are referred to embodied the spirit of modernism.
Albert Bertalan was born on September 21, 1899 in Jaszbereny, Hungary. He is known for painting compositions of figures in unique environments, including women by the sea, among other similar subject matters. He studied at the Nagybanyai Art School under some of the most important Hungarian artists, including Ivànyi Grünwald...
