About the Item
John Joseph Enneking: 1841-1916. Very well listed and very important 19th and early 20th century American artist. he painted in several styles, including tonalist,limpressionist and Hudson River. He is most famous for his tonalist and impressionist paintings. He spent four years in France studying different styles, including impressionism with Claude Monet. He returned to the Boston area in 1876, which is when this impressionist gem was painted. He has Auction results as high as $78,000. The painting is titled by Enneking on the back “Winter morning on the common” Boston Common is a famous park in Boston. The painting is an oil on board and measures 9 1/2 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches high.. It is signed lower left and dated 76 for 1876. The painting came in a frame that was falling apart and honestly not right for this spectacular painting. I’m not really sure what is better to reframe it or to let the lucky buyer put the kind of frame they want. I could take off some money for the framing if I don’t do it.Big things really do come in small packages!
