Ocean Wave, Mid Century Modern Abstracted Seascape
Beautiful abstracted seascape, a mid century modern oil painting of ocean waves breaking on rocks by listed California artist Jon Blanchette (American, 1908-1987). A cool palette of blues, teals, and whites with a bit of turquoise swirl together to form the expressive and dynamic water.
Signed "Jon Blanchette" lower left.
Displayed in a giltwood frame.
Masonite size: 20"H x 24"L.

Jon Blanchette was born in Somerset, England in 1908. Later in life, he and his family immigrated to Battle Creek, Michigan. Artistically inclined at age six, Blanchette studied at the Pittsburgh Art Institute where he received his BA. In 1932, he and his wife Jean moved to Los Angeles where he painted, did architectural design, interior decorating, and stage sets for Fox Studios. In 1948 he abandoned commercial work, and settled in Aptos, California where he painted fine art and taught privately. During the summers of 1965 through 1975 Blanchette held painting workshops in Mendocino, California. A romantic realist, he was primarily an oil painter, but was also proficient with pen and ink, watercolor, and silk screen.

Jon Blanchette
Jon Blanchette was born in Somerset, England, in 1908. He immigrated to Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1918. Artistically inclined at age six, he later studied at the Pittsburgh Art Institute, where he received his BA. He had a membership for the Santa Cruz Art League and Marin County Artists. Blanchette exhibited at Santa Cruz Women's Club, 1959, and stood first in the Santa Cruz County Art Competition, Aptos Art Center, 1965.
