Jonathan Shearer
Although the paintings by Jonathan Shearer are inspired by a precise landscape in a precise moment, they appear somehow timeless and placeless. They are not simple reproductions of nature, but personal reinterpretations in which the artist’s perceptions, imagination and emotions play a part in the composition of the landscapes. Jonathan Shearer has received many distinctions for his work, including two awards from the Royal Scottish Academy and a residency at the Valparaiso Foundation in Spain. His paintings belong to many private and public collections, notably the ones of British Midland Airways, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Cornhill Hospital and the Highland Council. “I work very fast, trying to capture something more than a simple view, or a frozen image: I try to share an experience.”

"Bayou in Blue & Gold" Landscape
By Max Flandorfer
Located in Soquel, CA
"Bayou in Blue & Gold" by Max Flandorfer (American, b. 1962). Presented in a giltwood frame. Signed "Max Flandorfer" lower left. Titled "Bayou in Blue & Gold," dated "2015" and signed on verso. Image: 12"H x 16"W.
Primarily a plein air painter, Max is an avid outdoorsman and is always seeking to capture the spiritual and humble quality of nature. His work evokes a restful, contemplative stillness that he seeks, both in life and his art. Growing up in Miami, he spent most weekends and summers outdoors in the Everglades, or on the water soaking up the rich color, and beauty of the tropical landscape. Flandorfer lived in California for over 20 years, and currently resides in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Mostly self-taught, Max was forever drawing and sketching as a kid, but the beautiful landscape, and rich artistic heritage of the Monterey peninsula's artist colony was the deciding influence on his later works. An illustration instructor, Jane Miller of Monterey Peninsula College encouraged him to study early California greats such as Granville Redmond...
