This painting is part of a recent project exploring the stories of Norse myths through the epic landscapes of Iceland. Playing with scale and mark-making, the work aims to celebrate the stories that seek to understand the forces and processes of nature.
Contemporary landscape painter Josephine Clouting sold online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Josie immerses herself in the landscape, from man made cultivated botanic gardens to wild stormy beaches and the rolling hills where she lives. Her paintings are intuitive, emotional responses to the natural environment, inspired by the vastness and wonder of the natural world. Josie’s works are saturated with colour, vitality and energy, reflecting her response to light, atmosphere and topography. Painting and sketching en plein air is a vital part of her practice, enabling her to react to the landscape and play with loose, immediate brush marks. Experimenting with acrylics on a variety of surfaces and scales, with many large scale paintings as a result are part of the enjoyment of the creative process. Josie's physical movements creating large expansive works are an expression of the energy she feels within the landscape. Josie graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts in 2012, and is now based in South Oxfordshire.

This abstract painting contains Jon Rowland's signature gestural mark making techniques, with bright colours and a complex composition this would make statement in any home. Discover new paintings by Jon Rowland and his abstract expressionism with Wychwood Art. Each work has been carefully selected by Deborah Allan our Chief Art Curator. Wychwood Art have exhibited Jon Rowland in London during a pop-up exhibition of theirs at the Darren Baker Gallery. His paintings have been displayed at the Royal Academy and at the Berthold and Darren Baker Gallery in London. He has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Linacre and Green Colleges, at Swann Gallery in Woodstock, and with Wychwood Art at Battersea Art Fair. He was one of six contemporary artists who took part in an exhibition of views of Blenheim Palace, juxtaposing the original visions with today's, as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown's birth.
