Judy Reynolds
Last Snow, Iona Marsh (Landscape Painting of Country Winter Scene, Gold Frame)

2019

About the Item

Last Snow, Iona Marsh, 2019 (Landscape Painting of Country Winter Scene, Gold Frame) by Judy Reynolds 6" X 12" oil on canvas 11.5 x 17.5 inches in gold frame signed lower right This small oil on canvas landscape painting was painted en plein air by Hudson Valley based artist, Judy Reynolds. The composition features a peaceful winter scene in a Hudson Valley landscape. With a palette of gray blues and browns, the artist transports the viewer to a place that is calm, quiet and truly picturesque. Sunlight illuminates the snow and clouded sky. The brushwork is smooth as there is little texture built upon the canvas. The painting is signed by the artist on the reverse. Artist Statement: Primarily self-taught, I’ve created landscapes and still-life paintings in either oil or pastel medium for over 30 years. As a native of the Hudson Valley, most of my work is centered upon the Hudson River and surrounding mountains, fields, and marshes, but I’m also inspired by the dreamy marshlands in Maine. My favorite seasons to capture on canvas are late fall and early spring filled with sunsets, storm endings and foggy marshes, rich with the changing colors of the seasons. In late fall or early spring, you can find Kinderhook, NY based painter, Judy Reynolds, outside capturing our area’s most picturesque views. The time of year brings dramatic sunsets, stormy skies, and foggy marshes that lend a breathtaking light and atmosphere to the artist’s ‘en plein air’ paintings and pastels. While the Hudson Valley provides endless vistas, a recent trip to Scotland brought some invigorated inspiration to her repertoire. It’s almost other-worldly mountainous, emerald-green terrain is captured in new large-scale works, one of which will be on view besides scenes of the more familiar Catskill Mountains. Reynolds studied at the University of New Paltz and has lived in the Hudson Valley for more than 30 years.

  • Lotus Number Four (Hard Edge Floral Still Life Painting of Lotus Leaves)
    By Frank DePietro
    Located in Hudson, NY
30 x 24 x 1 inches oil on canvas Inspired by close observations of the natural world and encounters with still moments that give us pause. Lines, shapes and colors encountered in nature, reveal the cycles of decay and regeneration that are life’s constant state of change. The work has a quiet, meditative quality. The subject is portrayed in a manner true to their existence in a specific time and place and selected based on considerations of visual relationships to formal elements of painting. Aspects of photo realism, hard edge and color field techniques are utilized to isolate the uniqueness of the subject’s detail, as well as emphasize flatness and illusion of depth within the two-dimensional space of the painting. About the artist: Frank DiPietro was born and raised in Scranton PA. He received a Bachelor of Art from Bloomsburg University in 1997, majoring in both Painting and Ceramics with a minor in Art History. In 2000 he earned a degree in Art Education from Moore College of Art and Design while continuing his studies in painting. Frank lived in Philadelphia for twelve years painting and teaching at several museums, art centers and schools in the region. In 2010 he and his family moved to Chester County PA, where he currently resides. Frank currently teaches painting classes and workshops at the Delaware Art Museum and Longwood Gardens...
