About the Artist:
Julius M. Delbos, born in 1879 in London, England, was a landscape painter, teacher, and lecturer. He was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design, New York City, in 1945, an Academician in 1948. He was also a member of the American Watercolor Society; the New York Watercolor Club; the Society of Graphic Art; Old Dudley Art Society, London; American Artists Professional League; National Arts Club; and the Century Club.
Delbos exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, D.C. in 1930 and 1937; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, in 1930 and 1936; Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; New York Watercolor Club, in 1935, where he won a prize; National Arts Club; Connecticut Academy of Fine Art; Society of Independent Artists; American Watercolor Society, winning prizes; and the Salons of America.
Delbos' paintings are in the collections of the Butler Art Institute, Youngstown, Ohio; Toledo Museum of Art, Ohio; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Yale University Artists Guild, New Haven, Connecticut; and New York Public Library. He is listed in Who Was Who in American Art. Julian M. Delbos died in Dover, New Jersey in 1970. Source: BHNY Fine Art
Delbos worked in both oil and watercolor, yet it was in the latter that his gifts truly shone, earning him praise from critics for their spirit and energy. In recognition, the Academy, which had only allowed watercolor submissions beginning in the mid-1940s, named him an Associate in 1945 and a full Academician only three years later. He was also a member of the American Watercolor Society, the New York Watercolor Club, the National Arts Club and the American Artists Professional League, among other groups.
In addition to the National Academy, Delbos exhibited his work in the 1930s at the Corcoran Gallery and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, with New York’s Babcock Galleries (1942) and Kleeman Galleries (1943), and with the Art Institute of Chicago from 1923 until 1944. The titles of his paintings from these venues reveal him to be incredibly well-traveled, finding inspiration from his native Europe to the deep American South to the Maine coastline. However, the island of Martha’s Vineyard, where he began summering as early as the 1920s and continued to do so for decades, appears to have been his favorite. Source: Vose Gallery

About the artist:
Ruth A. Wall was born in Wyoming on September 10, 1917 but moved to a homestead on an Indian reservation in Uintah, Utah in 1919. After graduating from high school at age 16 she left home to attend college, graduating at age 20 and began teaching high school at age 21.
She moved to Los Angeles where she became an Army materials inspector during WWII. She moved to Northern California and became a pilot, but entered the service as a WAC. Here she trained as a physical therapist and became an officer. She remained in the service until 1949.
In 1950 she entered the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, studying there until leaving for Paris in 1952 where she moved into the Academie Frochot. Returning to the CSFA in 1955 she worked as an artist until she had to take a job to make a living in 1957. Most of her work in printmaking was done in 1952, before leaving for Paris. They are, for the most part, gestural, Abstract Expressionist lithographs, done on the press at the CSFA at night after everyone had gone home. Her teachers were James Budd Dixon, Robert McChesney and, after 1955, Nate Oliviera and fellow students included James Kelly...
