About the Item
This contemporary abstract painting by Karin Olah features a modern, layered interpretation of a coastal landscape. Created with hand-dyed fabric, vintage textiles, and acrylic paint, the work blends painterly brushwork with quilt-like textures, evoking both land and seascape in a dreamy, mosaic composition. Inspired by cloud formations and the color transitions of the shoreline, Olah's signature collage technique adds depth and tactility. The painting is on panel, framed in a clean white float frame, and ready to hang. A companion piece titled Pink Horizon 5 is also available and pairs beautifully with this one.
Artist Statement:
Fabric is something that evokes an emotional response. Soft materials can make us feel calm, relaxed, cozy, and safe. I use textiles in my paintings to suggest a connection between the beautiful places in nature and the comforting touch of a well-loved quilt. Inspiration for my subject matter comes from cloud watching at the beach, the stripes of ocean waves on the horizon, a patchwork of farm fields, the meandering thread of a creek through the marsh, and quiet time at the lake. My interpretations of landscapes focus on color and mood more than realism. In these dreamscapes, the brushstrokes are fabric.
Bio:
Karin Olah combines her background in fashion design, a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, and an ever-growing collection of textiles to create mixed-media works that celebrate texture, place, and memory. Originally from Lancaster County, PA, and now based in Charleston, SC, she has been featured in Southern Living, Charleston Magazine, and House & Garden. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections including Mayo Clinic Florida, JW Marriott, and the Medical University of South Carolina.
