Lisa Bisbee’s "Birds-eye-view of Big Ben and River Thames in London" offers a fresh and dynamic perspective on one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. This original oil on canvas captures the grandeur of Big Ben as it towers over the River Thames, with the London Eye and Westminster Church completing the scene. The elevated viewpoint allows viewers to experience the expansive beauty of London’s skyline, revealing both its historic and modern elements in a single, sweeping glance. The painting is infused with a vibrant color scheme of pinks, oranges, blues, and purples, which adds warmth and energy to the scene. The hues blend harmoniously, creating a sense of depth and atmosphere that transforms the familiar cityscape into something both enchanting and contemporary. The interplay of colors enhances the architectural details, while also conveying the bustling life of the city. Bisbee’s composition is masterful, balancing the iconic structures with the flow of the River Thames below. The London Eye’s modern silhouette contrasts with the historic presence of Big Ben and Westminster Church, symbolizing the blend of tradition and innovation that defines London. The careful brushwork brings out the textures and forms of these landmarks, making them stand out while contributing to the overall harmony of the piece. This contemporary cityscape is available for purchase at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea, as well as online, offering a vibrant and modern portrayal of London’s timeless charm. Artist biography: Lisa Bisbee is a contemporary cityscape artist based in New York City. In her ongoing series of over 50 oil paintings titled "Bright Lights Pink City," Bisbee captures snapshots of urban architecture within a dreamlike atmosphere. Her work portrays both ordinary moments of daily city life and iconic landmarks such as the Guggenheim, Brooklyn Bridge, and Washington Square Park. Navigating the concrete jungle is an exhilarating experience for her, teeming with anticipation at every street corner. She aims to encapsulate the magical sensation of seeing the city with fresh eyes, imbuing her artwork with the essence of this exciting perspective. Through her art, she invites viewers to embark on a journey that renews their connection to the vibrant spirit of NYC, sparking a renewed sense of wonder and appreciation for its enchanting allure. Bisbee's NYC series of over 50 oil paintings depicts her adventures through the city, using vivid colors to showcase a vibrant metropolis. Influenced by her study of art history, particularly the Fauvism movement, she adopts the movement’s unique arrangement of colors—offbeat and unreal. She blends this concept with the exciting energy of New York City, aiming for the vibrancy to pop off the canvas much like how modern technology allows filters to alter photos and edit reality. Her palette includes neon pinks, fluorescent oranges, deep purples, bright yellows, and blues. Using Gapka oil paint from a small handmade artisan paint company, the colors achieve incredible saturation. Each painting in Bisbee's series serves as a snapshot of her urban expeditions through the city. Inspired by her photographs, she translates the experience of being in New York into joyful, vibrant oil paintings. Her work illustrates urban architecture and city life, from typical moments at crosswalks to landmark destinations like the Guggenheim, Brooklyn Bridge, and Washington Square Park. She captures experiences like viewing the skyscrapers from the East River ferry or seeing NYC from a bird's-eye view at sunset, depicting these moments with a blend of excitement and anticipation. Through carefully constructed scenes in my oil paintings, I have the power to transform reality into uplifting and inspiring depictions that pay homage to the inherent goodness found in people, places, and things. Regardless of whether I’m faced with gritty or overlooked settings, I dedicate myself to envisioning their metamorphosis into spaces filled with dignity, fun, frolic, happiness, and wonder. By offering fresh perspectives on familiar sights, I create vibrant and surreal renditions of the natural world that invigorate attitudes and foster a deep appreciation for our beautiful human existence. By employing a vivid color palette and whimsical lines that dance in rhythmic patterns across the canvas, I envision of a better world infusing life into my brushstrokes to vividly express the emotions stirred during my urban escapades in the heart of New York City.”-Lisa Bisbee

"Solebury Valley"
By William Langson Lathrop
Located in Lambertville, NJ
Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888. There he met and married an English girl, Annie Burt. Upon returning to New York, he tried his hand at etching, making tools from old saw blades...
