Provenance: Private collection, Charente
Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, traveled in the great southwest throughout his life. A student of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the manner of the Barbizon school, he transcribed until his death the simplicity of picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, captivating valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that will bring out a vital contrast.
The location presented here is unfortunately not identified. Cabié created at least two works, including ours, during the 1920s. Two houses face each other, framing a path, sheltered by tall trees. Should we look for this place around Bordeaux, in the Gironde moors? He passed there regularly during this decade, and the architecture could match. Let us wait patiently for another work representing this place, this time located opposite its appearance and can allow us to understand the journey of Louis Cabié a little better.
We are looking for any work or information relating to the artist to complete his biography as well as a catalog raisonné currently being compiled.

Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and in the United States and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, traveled in the great southwest throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the style of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of the picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, bewitching valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to raise with a vital contrast.
