About the Item
As a French Impressionist artist, most of the Delarue's works were produced in the Mid-20th Century. He was known for his charming compositions and with a passion to portray life by the sea and city. He also favored rich texturized paintings used mainly with a highly impressionistic manor to execute his subjects. This particular painting depicts boats by the marina with the use of bright bursts of oil paint which almost jumps off the canvas, with the beautiful colors of the water and the docked boats. The piece is signed by the artist lower right and titled verso and it comes housed in wood carved frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Lucien Delarue was born in Paris on November 10, 1925. At a very early age he participated in many art exhibitions and was met with instantaneous success. He is known internationally as an artist who faithfully captures the romantic moods of Paris. His famous subject of the "Rooftops of Montmartre" along with other equally well executed Paris scenes compliment well his equally romantic renderings of the South of France. The harbors of nice, st tropez, Villefranche, together with repertoire.
Delarue holds an impressive list of medals - gold, silver and bronze. He is a member of the French Watercolor Society. His work can be found in the Museum of Ile de France in the Chateau of Sceaux. The municipalities of Clichy and Paris have purchased his works. Today he is certainly one the most well known artists in France.
His style and colors are instantly recognizable and collectors seem to have an insatiable appetite for his work. Almost any European or American collection of consequence includes one or several of his works.

"Marina in the French Riviera" Post-Impressionist Sea Shore Boats Oil Painting
By Lucien Adrion
Located in New York, NY
This work by Lucien Adrion is a wonderful representation of his Post-Impressionist works at the seashore by the French Riviera. Using a bright palette of colors, Adrion executes this piece with much attention to detail with many boats situated along the marina. There are palm trees and buildings placed in the distance, as we can feel the warmth of the sun contrasted with the cool breeze of the water. The boats are wonderfully executed by the artist in a very whimsical way that leaves us with an essence of enjoyment from that sunny day at the marina. As this tourist destination was a favorite of the artist to find inspiration and highly attractive subjects and compositions to represent, we can find several of his works like this subject and others. The piece is signed by the artist lower left and it comes housed in a French giltwood frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
Art measures 19 x 23.5 inches
Frame measures 27 x 32 inches
Lucien Adrion was born May 25, 1889 in Strasbourg, France. He was a French Post-Impressionist painter, draftsman, and printmaker known for his depictions of the French countryside and beaches, as well as Parisian life including landscape, still life, figure, and landmarks paintings. He began his initial studies in Strasbourg as a technical draughtsman. In 1907, at the age of 18, he left his hometown Strasbourg and traveled to Paris, where he found employment in a large drafting company to work as a fashion illustrator. Adrion changed his mind upon arrival and rather than working for a large company, he decided to peruse his artistic career by traveling to London, Munich, and Frankfurt. As the World War broke out he had to go to Berlin, where he studied as an engraver with Hermann Struck, who was also the teacher of Marc Chagall. He remained in Berlin until the war ended and after the demobilization, Lucien would study engraving under Franz Ritter von Struck...
