About the Item
Crisp realist landscape of two ducks on the lakeside surrounded by rolling hills near Mt Tamalpais by Luke Stamos (American, b. 1938). Unsigned; one of 3 we purchased (one of which is signed) in Los Gatos California from the buyer who acquired them from the artist. Unframed. Measures: 18"H x 24"L.
Luke Stamos was born in Chicago, and began studying art at the Chicago Art Institute at age 5. His family moved to San Francisco in 1944 and became aware of California’s splendid outdoor life, and began to pursue a life-long hobby of hunting and fishing. While attending high school in Daly City, he won an art scholarship to San Francisco’s California School of Fine Art. He attended the Los Angeles School of Arts and Crafts, after which he worked for two years with Walt Disney Studios as an assistant animator.
He returned with his family to the Bay Area in 1957, and graduated from San Jose State University in 1960 with a B.A. in Fine Arts.In retirement, he continued as a wildlife/landscape artist, focusing primarily on the area in the remote back country of Santa Clara County behind Mt. Hamilton. He works both plein air and from photographs. His medium is oil, painted on canvas and board.
