About the Item
Early 20th Century oil on canvas painting of a garden by M Lagrosk. The painting is signed bottom right. Interestingly to the back stretcher there is a trade stamp for 'Montmartre, Blvd de Clichy' which is the same road Picasso had his study between 1909 and 1912. There is also an artist's annotation in pencil, possibly the subject of the painting.
A charming impressionist painting of a view through a cloister to a garden beyond. The classic columns of the colonnade contrast with the lush green of the plants and grass beyond. Pink roses cascade over a wall and trees give welcome shade from the heat of a summer's day. Medieval monastery gardens are famous for their beauty and abundance and often contained medicinal herbs and sacred plants.
