About the Item

Maggi Hambling (born Suffolk, 1945) is a household name in British art. She was the First Artist in Residence at the National Gallery, London, in 1981. She has works in major museum collections including The Met (New York), TATE (London), British Museum, National Portrait Gallery and many more.
Since the early 2000s, Maggi Hambling's main muse has been the North Sea, along the coast of her home county in Suffolk. Her seascapes beautifully convey the endless and sensual movement of the waves, their colours and ever-changing moods, which never cease to fascinate and transfix us.
The BBC commissioned 'Making Love With the Paint' a 1 x 60min TV documentary on her life and work in 2021, and there is also a forthcoming documentary on SKY Arts to be broadcast 2025.
