About the Item
Oil on Canvas.
In a winter countryside landscape, sprinkled with snow, on the bare, bleak, barren nature, snakes amidst completely bare trees a path that leads to the village, and on it some wayfarers pass by, while to the side some woodcutters are at work. A sky thick with dark clouds looms over everything, though a glimpse of blue opens up on the left.
The style harks back to the production of Marco Ricci, a Bellunese painter established for his undoubted talent for naturalistic and architectural depiction.
His landscapes, still with a distinctly seventeenth-century flavor, are already lit by powerful and emotive lights, dry and twisted trees, rocks and towers, cumuliform clouds suddenly breaking into vague flashes of blue, a complex repertoire that transfigures nature into a dramatic and restless representation.
He became a reference for several other artists contemporary with him, who took up his style, as in this 'work.
Restored and re-tinted, the painting is presented in a styled frame.
