Minnie Hollis Haltom (1887/89 - 1976) Texas Artist Image Size: 4.25 x 6.5 Frame Size: 8.25 x 10.25 Medium: Oil "Bluebonnets" Biography Minnie Hollis Haltom (1887/89 - 1976) "Haltom, Minnie Hollis Thornbury, 1888-1978. San Antonio, Austin. Genre, landscape, still-life, and wildflower painter, teacher, civil servant. Born in Anson, Haltom was reared in Colorado City and moved to San Antonio in 1916. She studied under Eloise Polk McGill, Rolla Taylor, Robert Jenkins Onderdonk, Julian Onderdonk, Jose' Arpa, and Xavier Gonzales. Haltom attended briefly the art school of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Where she was a student of Michel Jacobs. She was married for a time to Charles Teel Haltom (1911-26). Following a fire that destroyed her home, she moved to Austin where she lived five years while a daughter attended University of Texas. In 1937 Haltom moved back to San Antonio where she worked for the civil service until her retirement in 1960. Following retirement, she moved to Boling to be near her daughter. She died in Boling and was buried in Wharton. Exhibitions: Annual Texas Artists Exhibition, Fort Worth (1922-27, 1929-32, 1934-35); Annual Exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists, New York (1925); Texas Artists Exhibition, San Antonio Art League (1926); San Antonio Artists Guild (1927); Southern States Art League Annual Exhibition (1928); Anderson Gallery, New York (1928); Annual Exhibition of the Salons of America, New York (1928-29); San Antonio Local Artists Annual Exhibition (1930); Austin Womens Club (1937 award); Art for History's Sake: The Texas Collection of the Witte Museum, San Antonio (1993). Collections: Colorado City High School; Main Avenue High School and the Witte Museum, San Antonio. Affiliations: America Artists Professional League; National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors; San Antonio Artists Guild; San Antonio Art League; San Antonio Palette & Chisel Club; Society of Independent Artists; Southern States Art League; Texas Fine Arts Association."
