Mogens Erik Christien Vantore
Mogens Erik Christien Vantore was born in Copenhagen in 1895, he first studied with his father, the notable Danish Impressionist, Hans Christian Hansen. He continued his studies at the Charlottenberg Art Academy, to which he was admitted at the unusually young age of 14. Vantore subsequently studied in Paris (1923–25), where he came under the influence of the Post-Impressionists, particularly Gauguin and the Nabis. Returning to Denmark, Vantore continued to exhibit successfully in Paris while exhibiting annually at Copenhagen’s Charlottenborg Museum. In 1930, he was awarded the Akademie scholarship which enabled him to live and paint throughout Europe for two years. Vantore achieved both academic and commercial success in his lifetime, and his paintings may be found in the permanent collections of museums worldwide. His style is characterized by bravura brushwork, a saturated palette, an innovative perspective and a compositional structure that imparts vivacity to his carefully-observed subjects.
