About the Item
Oil painting of Cooper's Beach, in Southampton, New York. Voted as one of the world's best beaches, it's no wonder an artist like Nelson H. White considers it one of his favorite painting spots. The foreground is a vast array of sand, accentuated with textural brushstrokes. A track in the sand indicates where one beachgoer may have dragged their supplies, from parking lot to shoreline. A variety of beach umbrellas dot the horizon with rumpled depictions of sunbathers resting beneath them. A blue sky soars above a sliver of ocean peeking up just over the horizon. Smears of white blend into the blue sky, creating a sense of atmosphere, subtle clouds mixed in with the blue of the sky.
Framed in a custom made frame from Pisa, Italy. Gold Leaf over wood. Traditional style.
Signed "N.H. White" on recto's lower right, and inscribed "Coopers Beach, Southampton, L.I., Aug 23, 2004 Nelson H. White" on verso.
