    Oil on wooden panel painting of the iconic Flatiron building in New York City by the British artist Claude Cahill Cooper. Signed lower right. Condition is excellent. Circa 1975. The painting is housed in its original ornate gold leaf frame. Overall framed measurements are 23.25 by 19.25 inches. Claude Cahill Cooper (b. 1941) An Impressionist painter, he uses the pointillist method in many of his paintings. . Claude Cahill Cooper was born in London, England to parents who were both doctors. Recognizing his talents in drawing at an early age, his parents enrolled him at the Coventry Art School while he was still attending primary school. In later years he attended the London Art Institute and had his first show a few years later. His works are exhibited in London, Paris, and New York and his typical signature is C.C. Cooper. Flatiron Building, originally Fuller Building, steel-framed skyscraper in New York City that was completed in 1902. It is one of the city’s oldest surviving skyscrapers. The Flatiron Building on Fifth Avenue is significant not only in its unusual appearance but also as one of the key buildings in the Beaux-Arts Classicist movement. Its architect, New York–born Daniel Burnham, is better known for his work and plans in Chicago than in his city of birth. In 1873 he formed a partnership with John Wellborn Root that was significant in creating a group of architects and engineers called the Chicago School. The painting was painted circa 1935 by the well known artist, George Thompson Pritchard. Signed by the artist lower left. Condition is good; recently professionally cleaned. The painting is framed in its original gold leaf over carved wood period frame in very fine condition. Overall framed measurements are 34 by 39 inches. Provenance: Delray Beach Florida estate. Born in Havelock, New Zealand on April 11, 1878, George Thompson Pritchard studied in Auckland, New Zealand at the Academy of Art, at the Elam School of Art, and at the Melbourne Academy of Fine Arts in 1901. Upon arriving in San Francisco in 1906 in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake and fire, he produced many paintings during his three-year stay in the city. He then spent a few years in Milwaukee before journeying on to Paris for further art study at Académie Julian, and at the Vanderheldt Academy in Amsterdam from 1911 to 1914. During World War I, Pritchard lived in Canada, New York City, and Richmond, VA. In addition, he lectured and exhibited at colleges and universities throughout the Southern United States.
