Port. 1975. Oil on cardboard, 48,5x67,5 cm Nikolaj Petraskevics (1909 - 1976) Born in a working class family. Wife Ejzhenija Henisha - graphic artist, sons Juris Petrashkevich - graphic artist, Nikolai Petrashkevich - artist. He studied at the Latvian Academy of Arts, he graduated from the studio of easel painting; diploma - " Fishermen Cooperative " (head of diploma work G. Elias). He worked as a teacher in Riga Secondary School of Applied Arts, led the studio of folk painting (from 1962). He participated in exhibitions since 1951; significant personal exhibitions in Riga (1969, 1974), in Tukums (1970), Vilnius (1970), in Kuldiga (1970), Moscow (1973), Baku (1973) Smiltene (1974), Murmansk (1974 ), memorial exhibition in Tukums (1977), in Bauska (1979). Member of the Artists Union since 1952; He was a member of the directors board of Artists Union. Chairman of the painting section, member of the USSR Artist Union of watercolor painting. One of the children's drawing ollimpiad organizers, participated in the 12th Congress of UNESCO in Paris with the children aesthetic education (1975). Regular publications in the press, amounted catalogues. Multilateral artist, painted in the oil technique, in the second part of life mostly used watercolor. He worked in book designe, in poster art. Painted fishermen, ports motives, still life (fish, flowers, especially sunflowers), industrial landscapes and lyrical landscapes from all Latvian regions. In oil technique he based on the Latvian painting tradition of the 30s. He mainly used formats which was close to the square, emphasizing the peace and balance in the figural compositions. His artworks characterized as expressive, free and with textural space contrast. Artist developed classic watercolor painting techniques - spreading, washing, multi-layer paint overlay. He was awarded with diploma of the USSR Union of Artists at the exhibition "Painting Theme" in Tallinn with artwork "Pirmie stāvvadi" (1959).
