About the Item

This exquisite landscape painting by Oscar Lycke, a notable artist from Sundsvall who flourished around the turn of the 20th century, captures the serene beauty of a lake at sunset. The scene is delicately composed with a boat (Swedish "eka") resting against the shore, enveloped by the tranquil embrace of nature. Lycke's work, deeply rooted in the traditions of national romanticism and realism, offers a vivid portrayal of the natural world, reflecting a profound connection to his Swedish heritage and the landscapes that inspired him. Born and raised in Sundsvall, Lycke was from the beginning convinced of his path as an artist, despite not receiving formal art education. Encouraged initially by his drawing teacher, his journey into the art world was not without its challenges. Yet, his determination saw him through years of hardship, eventually allowing him to exhibit his work across Sweden, as well as internationally in Copenhagen and New York. Lycke's travels in search of motifs took him to various locations, enriching his palette with the diverse beauty of the Swedish countryside. Oscar Lycke's career was marked by his ability to support himself and his family through his art, a testament to his talent and the appreciation he garnered during his lifetime. Despite his premature death at the age of 50, Lycke's legacy endures, celebrated for his contribution to Swedish landscape painting and his unique ability to capture the essence of the North. This painting, a testament to Lycke's artistic vision and skill, is not just a piece of art but a portal to the serene and majestic landscapes of Sweden, inviting viewers to a moment of tranquility and reflection.

Sunset over the River
By Viktor Butko
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
An oil painting by Russian Impressionist painter Viktor Butko. Butko's impressionistic style is part of a longer lineage of Russian Impressionists. "Sunset Over the River" displays his appreciation for the colors and subtle light seen just after sunset, along a river in his homeland. Painting dimensions: 30 x 36 inches Framed dimensions: 36 x 42 inches Artist Bio: Viktor Butko was born in 1978 in Moscow, into a family of artists. He often visited the studio of his grandfather, the famous artist Victor Chulovich, and watched the creation of paintings. As you may imagine, this has inspired him to start painting. Viktor’s first steps in art were directed by his grandfather and his parents, artists Nickolay Butko and Marina Chulovich, he then studied at the Moscow Art School, which is known for a high level of training. After completing his training at the art school, Butko painted at the Academic Dacha of Artists, created by the great Russian artist Ilya Repin for students of the Academy of Fine Arts. There he worked under the guidance of famous artists Alexey Gritsay and Tkachev brothers, which had a big impact on his creativity. Viktor’s first solo show was held in the United States, in 2002 at the McCarthey Gallery, one of the foremost dealers in the United States for Russian Impressionist art. This marked the beginning of a long cooperation with the gallery. Later, in 2016, He took part in an international plein air event, which was organized by American painter Ben Fenske and art dealer Laura Grenning. As a result of this Russian-American Painting Alliance a large exhibition was held in the Grenning Gallery...
