Patrice Marchal
Précieux coquelicots II

2023

About the Item

Born in Abidjan in 1963, Patrice Marchal lives his childhood in Morocco. Used to see big spaces and wide blue sky and horizons, he transports this look with him to France and transpose it to other landscapes, in the line of Barbizon School artists. Self-educated, every artwork is a personal, universal and timeless invitation. In every registered detail in his memory he creates a bouquet filled with hollow path, wheat fields, decorated by poppy that overcome the greenery of the trees or extend the meadow field. He traces the sky with white clouds overflying an earth full of maturity. In one word, Patrice Marchal translates the past, current and future life. That unchangeable life that comes back and rises from the ashes, that eternal paradise that we call “EARTH”.

In Rome, he kept company with Mariano Fortuny, whose painting, with its pleasant, captivating luministic effects, made a very strong impression on Joris. That was how he developed his own very personal artistic language, which went on to bring him remarkable commercial success on an international scale, helped by his collaboration with Paris art dealer...
