Pieter Mulier known as Tempesta (Haarlem, Netherland, 1637 - Milan, Italy, 1701) Title: Landscape Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: without frame 49 x 65 cm - with frame 62 x 78 cm Gilded and shaped frame Expertise by Anna Orlando, art historian Publications: Dipinti genovesi dal Cinquecento al Settecento. Ritrovamenti dal collezionismo privato, curated by Anna Orlando, Torino 2010, pp. 145-150; Pittura fiammingo-genovese dal collezionismo privato, curated by Anna Orlando, Torino 2012, pp. 100-105. Originally from Haarlem but settled in Italy from 1656, the date on which he was active in Rome, Pieter Mulier started painting landscapes right from the start. He moved to Genoa where he lived for some time and finally settled in Milan, where he died at the beginning of the 18th century. In the present work, the characteristic stylistic features of Mulier's work are evident, such as the juxtaposition of bright flashes of light with leaden clouds.
