About the Item
Stunning oil on canvas landscape of the River Conway in Wales by British artist R. Ellis Wilkinson. Painted in 1881 and signed lower right. In what apears to be the original period frame. Canvas has ben wax resin lined.
R. Ellis Wilkinson was born in 1854 and died in 1891. He studied painting at the Royal Academy Schools in London, where he was admitted in April 1873.

An English River Landscape was sold in 2024.
His 1877 oil on canvas, also titled "English River Landscape," was auctioned in 2024.
The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum holds a work by him titled "Jolly Strollers".
Records from auction houses show that R. Ellis Wilkinson exhibited works during the same period he was a student at the Royal Academy Schools. However, it is not certain if any of his pieces were shown at the official Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions.
