About

Unframed Childhood I was born in 1950 in Barcelona, within the bosom of a humble family. When I was little, when I was two or three years old, I started with my artistic interests: I had a lot of skill in my hands and an excellent imagination. My artistic life began when I was seven years old, when I realized that all my vital breath would be around art and its manifestations. Barcelona As I began to paint, I discovered a fantastic world and I entered the school of the Llotja de Barcelona, to begin to shape my concerns. With the painter Joseph Curtiella I learned the steps of drawing and the secret techniques of color and forms. I had as a teacher Bermejo, a good portrait painter and classical academy painter and Lluis Muntaner. Also to Planas Gallés, which has remained for the history of art as a painter with a good impressionist design. In modeling and sculpture was Buidas, the sculptor of the facade of the cathedral of Girona. I began to combine the school of La Llotja with the School of Fine Arts. There I had as teachers Miquel Farré and Mestres Cabanes, who taught me pictorial procedures and perspective. At night, I still attended the Artistic Circle of Barcelona, where I established a relationship with several painters such as: Tarrasó, Puigdengolas, Barella and Pruna. The Circle was the meeting place of the great painters of Barcelona. Saint James 60x40 1958 At seventeen, I began to complement my classes at the School of Fine Arts with my particular anatomical studies performed at the forensic repository of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. Paris In 1968 I started a six-month painting course at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, where I began to meet the old masters and learned to value freedom of expression in the treatment of classical painting. During this time I was making portraits in the Plaza de Montmatre. Florence and Rome Back in Barcelona, I got a scholarship from the Superior School of Fine Arts, for a stay in Florence and Rome. In Florence I did the course of mural composition and classical drawing. In Rome I attended the painting studio of Pietro Santi, a noted academic. My studies, when they were not scholarships, I paid for them working in a company of artistic irons. So I learned the trade of forging, which I still presume today, because iron is an extremely noble material if you know how to work. The mural painting: Barcelona, Almazán and Girona. My period as a muralist begins with the mural painting of the church of Ntra. Sra. De la Salud, on Larrat street in Barcelona: an entire baptistery of one hundred square meters. This work was followed by different murals in private houses in Vic and Barcelona. In 1990, the project to paint the life of Jesus in the church of the Villa de Almazán (Soria), dating from the 17th century. Today we can contemplate the theme of Nativity and Calvary. In Sant Climent de Sasevas I made three murals referring to telecommunications, construction and other decorative themes. Other murals made in this period are about allegories about industry, the sea, agriculture, the collection of oranges in Valencia ... At the age of thirty I made one of the works of which I am most proud, the painting "The Dinner of Culture" (2x3 meters), a work that links in the context of social criticism with the pictorial avant-gardes. Between the years 1970-80, I made several painting exhibitions in Barcelona and Berlin. I worked as a restorer of works of art. These were moments in which my painting acquired very special tints with a tendency towards drama and the gloomy world. Madrid In Madrid, where I was living, I dedicated myself to easel painting, with exhibitions in the Ces Gallery. Definitely, my painting was decanting towards the stylistic classicism. New York I started traveling to contrast my knowledge and techniques about color and drawing with other methods and options. I spent seven months in New York, where I made an exhibition of 23 large-format oils, representing female figures. This exhibition had an unexpected success: in one session all the oil paintings were sold. San Francisco and New Mexico During my stay in San Francisco, which lasted eight months, I changed the subject to landscapes and seascapes, making an exhibition of oil paintings on landscapes of California and the beaches of the Pacific, with great impact by the way of treating color, which was the transposition of the light of the Mediterranean. From San Francisco I traveled to New Mexico and to Mexico D.F., where I became impregnated with the knowledge about mural painters who have made history: Ribera, Xiqueiros and Orozco. Peru, Chile and Argentina Then I moved to Peru, studying the Inca culture and visiting the ancient city of Machu Pichu, near Cuzco. Interested in ancient cultures, I visited Easter Island, a Chilean island located in the Pacific. Its gigantic volcanic stone sculptures
