About the Item
Contemporary Impressionist Encaustic Landscape Painting
"Spring Snow", made by Regina Quinn in 2023
Encaustic, oil with wax, and India Ink on panel
16 x 12 inches, 17.25 x 13.25 x 2 inches in a gold float frame
Excellent condition, ready to hang
Signed, verso
This landscape painting was made by upstate New York based artist, Regina Quinn, in 2023. This painting is a brilliant example of how she incorporates the richly pigmented, stark black India Ink used to paint the treeline juxtaposed with the creamy, pastel encaustic used to paint the puple tinged snow. The sun is rising in the ground, a soft yellow peers through the treeline. The early signs of spring foliage are evident in the silhouette of the tall treeline. Oil paint is often mixed in with beeswax on top of the encaustic, giving her work added vibrancy and a luminous glow. This painting is complemented with a Larson Juhl floater frame with wire backing. It's in an excellent condition, signed by the artist, and ready to hang.
Artist statement about the piece:
"The radiant edges of day, veiled in mystery, quiet like a held breath yet energized by the tensions between shifting darkness and light; these are the inspirations for my work. Rooted in my sense of awe and deep connection to the natural world, my paintings are an expression of my love and sense of stewardship for the fragile balance that allows life to exist and thrive on this planet."
More about Regina Quinn:
The elegance of a fallen leaf on the forest floor, the eerie glow as morning fog lifts, the dynamic tension between abstraction and naturalism – these are the inspirations for Regina Quinn’s encaustic and oil paintings. A New York City native, Regina divides her time between New York’s Catskill Mountains and the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont where her work is influenced by the stark winters, lush springs, exuberant summers and vibrant autumns. Working in encaustics, she builds transparent and opaque layers, scrapes and scratches and incises to reveal and obscure, working towards the sense of awe and wonder she experiences daily in the natural world.
Regina holds a Special Studies in Fine Arts bachelor’s degree from Trinity College where she received the Peyser Art Award, first prize and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Vermont. She has designed and painted sets for several Lyric Theater productions at Burlington, Vermont’s Flynn Theater for the Performing Arts and has worked as a muralist, graphic designer, and educator for 35 years. Regina is dedicated to sparking students’ creativity, innovation, and passion for environmental stewardship.

View from the Train: Cityscape Oil Painting, View of Brooklyn
By Patty Neal
Located in Hudson, NY
View from the Train, 2019
24" X 40" x 1", oil on canvas
This contemporary oil painting depicting a metropolitan view is the work of realist painter Patty Neal. The painting offers an intimate view of the city, as seen from a window, as it peeks from behind two metal structures. The dark browns and bright golds beautifully compliment the dusty blue, gray sky. Neal works highlight everyday city scenes, utilitarian infrastructure, and industrial or electrical apparatus.
Artist statement:
A life is an accumulation of experiences: visual, emotional and mental. By compartmentalizing these snippets of life we create boundaries. The focus of my work for many years has been the exploration of these various life aspects and how they are bound together or bound from each other. My process is often literally composed of boundaries. I make a painting by putting together multiple panels, or I segment a single panel into separate visual spaces. The works are made up of pieces or elements of city and landscape. While exploring the concepts of boundaries I play with visual “reality.” Sometimes I combine images that are upside down with those that are not and juxtapose images from different contexts. Literal boundaries, such as walls fences, expanses of water and highway median strips are also used. My intent is to invite viewers to look beyond these boundaries to see the possibilities of a connected whole.
