About the Item

Artwork sold with frame (46 x 65 x 5 cm) René Durey (1890–1959) was a French painter known for his landscapes and still lifes. Born and deceased in Paris, he was largely self-taught. In 1917, he exhibited at the Huyghens Gallery alongside artists such as Moïse Kisling and Henry de Waroquier. His work was featured in the 1926 retrospective of the Salon des Indépendants, where he presented pieces like Paysage méditerranéen, Naples, and Volterra. Durey's style was influenced by Cubism, particularly the work of Roger de La Fresnaye. His paintings have been sold at various auctions, with prices ranging depending on the size and medium. In 1959, the year of his death, Durey painted Vue de la Raffinerie de Berre for an exhibition organized by Shell-Berre at the Musée Galliera, commemorating the centenary of the first oil drilling. René Durey's legacy endures through his contributions to 20th-century French art, with works held in both public and private collections.
