VERY RARE, Original Oil on canvas by Richard Firth (Born 1971)
With 'Big Five' Yachts racing off the Royal Yacht Squadron Cowes
Westward, Lullworth, Shamrock, White Heather & Britannia.
This is the only painting by Firth with all five Yachts racing together.
Richard Firth is one of the world’s leading marine artists his paintings are usually based on early 20th century classic yacht races. Born in Hull, Yorkshire in 1971. He had a natural talent for art at school but it was not until 1996 that he began painting professionally. He started work at a butcher’s shop as a Saturday boy aged 13. Since then Richard has specialized in marine paintings, apart from a brief period painting pictures of vintage and rally cars with two of his motoring paintings being published as limited edition prints.
Firth’s marine paintings inspired him to become a keen yachtsman, realizing that to paint accurate seascapes he would need to spend time on the high seas and learn all aspects of sailing. Firth’s first sailing experience was on the Humber and East Coast of England. He then went on to sailing on the Solent and competing in the Round the Island Yacht Race for several years. Richard entered the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2012 after extensive training, crossing the 3390 miles of the South Atlantic Ocean from Rio de Janeiro to Cape Town in 18 gruelling days on the winning clipper ‘Gold Coast’.
Firth was asked to exhibit at the prestigious, Ferens Museum and Art Gallery, Hull, England in their Winter Exhibition of 1996. Since then, his marine paintings have become highly sought after by collectors of fine marine art.
At the present time, Richard Firth produces a small number of highly detailed paintings each year.

Born and raised in Louisiana, Laura Cooper began life surrounded by water. Her childhood home was on the banks of the Vermilion Bayou in Lafayette. She has fond memories of watching the tugboats push barges from the Gulf of Mexico as she was sitting on her back porch. She often went on fishing trips with her family in Louisiana and Upstate New York, where her father’s family summered for generations. This early exposure to the maritime world led her to capture the beauty of sailing on canvas. Her work combines a unique relationship between atmosphere and light while maintaining a painterly feel. Her art is in collections around the world.
