Richard Stanley is a professional artist living in Cygnet, Tasmania. He was born into a creative family in Warrnambool, Victoria in 1961. In high school Richard excelled in acrylic painting, and later moved on to oil painting. After moving to Western Australia from Victoria he pursued his passion for creating art, studying at the Claremont School of Art, for a Diploma majoring in Painting and Drawing. He eventually moved with his family to Tasmania after visiting on a holiday and being incredibly inspired by the stunning light and landscape of Tasmania. Richard has a great love for landscapes, especially the subtle tones and colours in the sky and water, par­ticularly during the early morning and late afternoon when the shadows are longer and the sky is more colourful. He is able to create atmosphere and depth in his work. His love for reflections on the water is also an area of inspiration in his work. Richard has exhibited in many exhibitions and art awards, winning two Major Awards, nine People’s Choice Awards and three Mayor’s Choice Awards over the years, including several acquisitional awards. He mainly now works in oils on canvas and has previously painted in acrylic and watercolour. He was the Chairman of the Huon Art Exhibition Group (HAEG) in Cygnet for five years and served on the committee for ten years. He was also an exhibiting member of the Australian Society of Marine Artists (ASMA) and has served as an Art Prize Judge for the Royal Hobart Show Art Awards.
