About the Item
Rob Katkowski’s original oil painting, October Dusk, is an atmospheric and contemplative work that captures the essence of twilight, blending symbolic abstraction with the quiet beauty of the natural world. Measuring 21 inches tall by 18 inches wide and painted in oil on linen, this piece invites viewers to experience a liminal, dreamlike space where the familiar dissolves into the unknown.
The composition is dominated by an expansive ochre-toned hillside, bathed in the soft, diffused light of dusk. At its peak, a luminescent doorway emanates a glowing white light, symbolizing a mysterious passage. A delicate, winding path etched in faint lines connects the viewer to the glowing form, offering both a literal and symbolic journey toward the unknown. The hill’s surface is earthy, with subtle tonal shifts that create a rich sense of depth and dimension.
At the base of the hill lies a shadowy, circular form rendered in deep, moody tones of midnight blue, green, and deep violet. This mysterious void contrasts sharply with the illuminated doorway above, anchoring the painting with a sense of grounded introspection. Surrounding the composition are slender, leafless trees reaching toward the sky. Their trunks, streaked with vibrant deep orange, create a striking visual contrast against the muted background, suggesting both vitality and the quiet changes of the seasons.
The sky above, painted in soft, atmospheric grays, is punctuated by a faint glowing moon—a subtle nod to the transitional time between day and night. The entire scene radiates a meditative stillness, evoking the threshold between light and shadow, reality and the metaphysical. Katkowski’s fine brushwork and layered textures emphasize the painting’s emotional depth, drawing viewers into its haunting beauty.
October Dusk perfectly embodies Katkowski’s signature exploration of liminal spaces and the delicate balance between the physical and the unknown. The work’s subtle narrative hints at themes of passage, transformation, and the beauty of impermanence, inviting viewers to reflect on their own inner journeys.
This ready-to-hang original painting is presented with clean, finished edges, requiring no additional framing. Its unique dimensions and rich narrative make it an ideal focal point for contemporary interiors, whether displayed in a living room, hallway, or curated gallery wall. Collectors drawn to contemporary landscape painting, metaphysical art, and works with emotional resonance will find October Dusk to be a timeless and deeply meaningful acquisition. Convenient delivery is available for the Los Angeles area, and affordable worldwide shipping is offered for US and international art collectors. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Rob Katkowski, celebrated for his ability to create works that blur the line between the real and the imagined, has exhibited widely across the U.S., with works in notable collections such as PNC Bank and the Fairmont Hotel. October Dusk is a testament to his mastery of storytelling through paint, offering a moment of quiet reflection in a fast-moving world. It is an invitation to step into the unknown, where light, shadow, and imagination converge in perfect harmony.

Born just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rob Katkowski is a visionary artist whose work transports viewers to ethereal landscapes and mysterious transitional spaces. A graduate of The Ohio State University with a BFA in Painting (1998) and an MFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (2007), Katkowski’s artistic journey is defined by a profound exploration of alternate realities and the invisible pathways that connect them. Shortly after earning his MFA, Katkowski was selected for the prestigious Brewhouse Distillery Artist Residency in Pittsburgh, where he later co-led the program from 2008 to 2011. His art has been exhibited widely across the United States and internationally. Notable collections include the Fairmont Hotel (Pittsburgh, PA) and PNC Bank (Manhattan, NY, and Pittsburgh, PA). Katkowski's art is a window into the unknown, blending serene landscapes with hints of other worldly dimensions. His compositions often feature leafless trees
marking the thresholds of lost worlds, shimmering ponds revealing hidden
watery passages, or twilight doorways to alternate realities. His works delve into
transitional spaces, evoking the thin veil between the physical and metaphysical
realms where unseen pathways to the unknown are revealed. After spending several years in New York City, Katkowski returned to Seattle, where he continued to create paintings that inspire curiosity and wonder. His artworks
invite the viewer to consider profound questions: If other worlds exist, how might
we reach them? Through his distinctive style and narrative-rich compositions,
Katkowski sets up scenarios that unlock these invisible realms, allowing the
imagination to explore their mysterious depths. Katkowski’s work has captured the attention of collectors and galleries alike, standing as a testament to his ability to create captivating, multidimensional worlds
that linger in the minds of those who encounter them.

Looking at the Swallow Birds - Large Original Painting on Canvas
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Mohamad Khayata’s original figurative artworks are the result of five years of displacement and deal with themes of migration, memory, and identity. Mohamad’s paintings exhibit an array of emotions, ranging from bliss and comfort to tension and uncertainty. Many of his artworks portray a sense of transience, which is all the more palpable when considering that Khayata's intimate work is a tribute to displaced people and to their daily life stories that, far from familiar surroundings, are filled with effort and hope.
Khayata created this original painting with acrylic paint on canvas. It measures 46 inches high by 39 inches wide. This artwork was created in the artist's new studio after his previous studio was destroyed in the 2020 blast in Beirut. It is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas. This painting is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this original work.
This artwork is part of a new series of imagery by the artist, in which Khayata's illustrative paintings are strategically placed to mingle with people and the environment. These paintings amass a memorial narrative; connecting the artist and the viewer to the rich cultural heritage of Syria and the larger narrative of what it means to be home.
Born in Damascus, Syria, artist Mohamad Khayata was forced to flee his home country due to ongoing political conflict. Khayata has been living in Beirut, Lebanon since 2012. His work is a resounding call for transformation and unity within his home country. His photography project "Stitching my Syria back" was chosen to be part of Journeys Festival International 2016 as a landmark for the “Look up” project in Leicester, where his photographs were installed on ten buildings. During this public exhibition coordinated with the Royal Institute of British Architects, his photographs were installed on ten buildings, fostering a deeper connection between art and the public, highlighting empowerment and enriching a younger generation’s aspirations for the future.
In the last few years, Khayata has participated in an increasing number of collective exhibitions across Europe and the Middle East, where his distinctive style and original approach have captivated audiences, leading to sold-out exhibitions each time, cementing his status as a sought-after artist in the global art scene. Holding his BA in Fine Arts obtained at Damascus University, Khayata is a bastion of Syrian legacy, memory, home, and happiness.

Title: The Petrified Origin
Artist: Antoni Pitxot i Soler (1934–2015)
Technique: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 25.6 x 31.9 in (65 x 81 cm)
Date: 1967
Condition: Unframed
Signature: Signed lower right: Pitxot
Provenance: Private collection
Notes: Early work from Pitxot’s mature period, featuring the symbolic and meticulously rendered stone forms that would define his artistic identity.
📝 Work Description
In The Petrified Origin, Antoni Pitxot presents a haunting and timeless vision of a single, eroded rock suspended in a dreamlike, undefined space. The stone, modeled with sculptural precision, appears to float over a subtly reflective surface, devoid of background or narrative context. Its porous texture, cracks, and shadows evoke a fossilized memory — a silent relic of geological time.
Painted in 1967, this piece exemplifies Pitxot's unique visual language, developed through his practice of collecting stones along the Costa Brava and transforming them into anthropomorphic and symbolic compositions. The result is both surreal and solemn, an ode to nature’s memory and the enduring presence of the inanimate.
👤 About the Artist
Antoni Pitxot i Soler (born in Figueres, 1934 – died in Barcelona, 2015) was a Catalan painter deeply rooted in the surrealist tradition. Coming from an artistic family —his uncle was Ramon Pichot, a friend of Picasso and Dalí— Pitxot trained as a draughtsman and painter from a young age. In the 1960s, he settled in Cadaqués, where he developed his distinct artistic universe.
His paintings revolve around stone as a symbol of permanence, transformation, and memory. Pitxot created sculptural assemblages from real coastal stones and later immortalized them in oil on canvas. His works often hint at human figures, ancient myths, and allegories of time.
🎭 Connection with Salvador Dalí
Pitxot was not only a close friend of Salvador Dalí but also one of his closest collaborators. Dalí admired his work and invited him to co-design the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres. After Dalí’s death...
