About the Item
A beautiful oil on canvas painting by American artist, Robert Lebrone. He was a Parisian painter known for his colorful cityscapes depicting the times of his generation. His work is comparable to those of Jules Herve, Antoine Blanchard and Edouard Cortes. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career, but is a rare scene in that it is of the iconic New York City Skyline. Here you see the Brooklyn bridge with the Twin Towers. The details are magnificent as Lebrone captures the architecture of New York so beautifully; you can feel the energy of the day. The painting is signed lower right and it comes housed in an original wood carved frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Robert Lebron was born in 1928 in New York City. At a young age, he moved from New York to Puerto Rico with his fisherman cousin who told Lebron about the perils of the sea. Inspired by these tales, Lebron and his cousin would illustrate these stories on old paper bags. He returned to New York a few years later and at age 14 was admitted to New York City's High School of Music and Arts. He studied for three years before he gave in to his youthful impatience and joined the United States Air Force, forging his parents' signatures in order to join underage. He soon started drawing cartoons for the camp newspaper and quickly graduated to the animation department of the Air Force's motion picture unit.
Robert Lebron developed his own personal technique during an extended stay in Spain. Rendering buildings and cityscapes with a palette knife are one quality that distinguishes his work. Lebron painted professionally for almost forty years and is recognized as an important American impressionist. He has had numerous successful shows and exhibitions and the number of collectors of his work is growing steadily. His paintings can be found in prestigious collections in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Great Britain, and Japan. Robert Lebron passed away on August 31, 2013.

"In 1956, at the Charlotte Norberg Gallery (Paris), he presented his first personal exhibition, composed of an ensemble of surrealist paintings of professional inspiration (dental elements). Two years later, at Gallery Royale (Rochefort), he exhibits another 50 paintings on the subject. At that time, a decisive event for the painter David Solot was made: a great new-York-born antibiotic producer Lederle Cy learns about his work and contacts him through the US Ambassador to Paris, proposing an advertising contract and buying the reproduction right for 24 of its canvases. A year later, the same company bought the right to print three of its cloths in color. This was the starting point of his international notoriety.
