White Moon
This is a unique painting in acrylic on textured silk shantung, made into a wall hanging by British contemporary artist Rose Fulbright.
The artwork is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity, as well as wooden dowels and hooks for hanging.
Rose kept the silk creased as she worked on it, to embrace and reveal the textures of the silk. Inclusion of the raw edges, sometimes not perfectly straight, is a conscious decision that gives the piece a sense of honesty and immediacy. This calm night scene is therefore given a little extra grit in the textures. The use of pretty ballet pink with dusty blue and pale lemon conveys a sense of a calm and otherworldliness. Brushstrokes are highly visible to create an expressionistic depiction of the night sky.
This is a study of a full moon observed in North London in 2024. Rose is interested in the spiritual connections humanity has had with the sun, moon and sky over history, and the power that it holds over our survival and imaginations.
This piece is from the Light & Water Collection, which was showcased in a solo show in Surrey, United Kingdom, in July 2024.
Light & Water is a series of paintings and painted furniture that was inspired by Rose's experiences of awe in nature, working with the most unifying element of human experience, the sky above.
This painting has been made with multiple applications of handmade acrylic wash on specially treated couture silk, which enables the artist to build up scenes in the manner of a watercolorist.
The resulting works have a beguiling depth, the silk background showing an appealing luminescence through the shifting layers of paint.

Raised in a particularly artistic Welsh family, Rose grew up surrounded by the ceramics industry of the Potteries (her grandmother was Susan Williams-Ellis, founder of Portmeirion Pottery) and has a deep connection with form, colour and pattern. After earning a First Class Honours Bachelor's degree from the University of the Arts London, her artistic career includes two years working as a painter full time showing in solo and group exhibitions, as well as over ten years as designer, creative and art director of her eponymous luxury loungewear brand Rose Fulbright. Rose lived and worked in Beijing for four years, followed by Brussels for five years before settling in London with her family where she is now studying for a Masters in Fine Art at City & Guilds School of Art. A tactile and practically proficient person, Rose works with silk, canvas, paper and wood, in a range of paint mediums from fluid watercolours to house paints and acrylics, which she mixes from raw pigment powders. Rose’s work explores humanity and the natural world through the lens of a colourist, celebrating moments of joy and playfulness juxtaposed with concepts of the mysterious, Sublime power of nature. Her belief, deeply rooted in her upbringing, that art and beauty should be applied to everything that surrounds us, means that her work often spills over onto antique furniture pieces, wall murals and fabric designs, making her painting collections into 360 degree experiences. Maestro Edele Bessy was born on August 7, 1946. Self-taught painter since 1982. At first she mainly worked in miniature on ivory, which she then abandoned in favor of oil painting.
New beings appear unconsciously on his canvases taking on the dimension of a wandering crowd, mostly women whose eyes arise and challenge us with ever so much acuity.
Maestro Bessy paints in a very personal, constantly evolving style.
