A long pathway stretches to the horizon on a dreamy summer day on Cape Cod. Rendered with brushes and palette knives, artist Ruth Lague shares, "This painting displays a rough-textured palette of rich greens, blues, and oranges to capture movement through this abstract landscape."
About the Artist
In her abstracted landscape paintings, Ruth LaGue pares composition down to its barest form. Through simple color, line and form, landscapes are invoked, rather than detailed. Ruth adjusts the placement of the horizon line in her paintings to suggest a range of natural formations. She stretches form, line and color to their limits, providing the least amount of visual information needed to understand the landscape. Her color palette is nuanced and each color is distinctly her own. She is deeply influenced by her childhood in Alaska and her travels to India. While in India, she found an indelible connection between the vast, wild landscape of her childhood and the limitless internal landscape of the soul. Ruth’s beautifully simplified landscapes become metaphors for the spiritual or otherworldly realms inherent in both nature and in the self.

Artist Candice Eisenfeld draws inspiration from the silhouetted trees of the rainforests of Northern Georgia. "One early morning as the fog was clearing, a hawk guided me through the mountains," shares Candice. "The hawk led me through ethereal, meditative places with overwhelming beauty." She took photographs of her journey and painted her experiences of the adventure. "The bottom image depicts the rough, beginning of the journey and the scene portrays the ending. The rough, orange texture denotes the bark of the trees."
About the Artist
As an American exploring issues of identity, artist Candice Eisenfeld paints through the lens of the first American art movement, the Hudson River School. Rather than depicting a specific locale, Candice’s artwork evokes a sense of place. These "inner landscapes" are invented, and often reference photographs taken during travels in southern Appalachia and the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Whether real or imagined, her paintings are influenced by the Dutch Masters, Tonalists, and Chinese painting. Produced on a single wooden panel, the ethereal landscapes are often joined with segments of aqueous color fields which act as commentary for the landscapes, like the chorus in a Greek play. The crisp, hard edges separating the landscapes from the color fields command a sense of order in an otherwise fluid and painterly surface. With two or three sections of the panel competing for attention, the painting creates multiple focal points. Candice's art has been displayed in embassies in Namibia and Belarus, held in the collections of Norwest Bank and Northwest...

The intuitive nature of my personality flows over into my art practice. It is essential for me to paint without reference materials or a preconceived outcome. My paintings are often suggestions of a landscape or seascape, and these works are created in the same way as my more abstract pieces. All are genuine expressions that resonate with my spirit. I am fascinated with clouds, fog, mist, rays of sunlight, mountains, trees, sunsets, marshlands, rolling pastures, and moody skies.
About the Artist
Jenn Williamson expertly evokes the scenery of British Columbia in her soft abstract landscapes. She utilizes defining horizontal and vertical strokes, coupled with a skillful handling of color, to create significant depth in each piece. Her paintings, though abstracted, clearly convey the atmospheric attributes of the scene–rain, wind, clouds, fog. Jenn’s muted color palette transports the viewer to the Canadian west coast, as if to be standing before the marshlands and ocean right alongside the artist.
