Large-scale abstract minimalist color field painting titled, "Red Sea, Two Moons" by Canadian abstract painter Sasha Rogers (Canadian, b. 1969), 1993. A textural red sea comprises the lower two thirds of this large horizontal canvas, with the dark blue sky hinting at two loosely brushed white moons above. Rogers captures a clean, minimal industrial aesthetic in this compelling yet subdued piece. Exhibition label with title, artist and date on verso. Presented in rustic wood slat frame. Image size: 26.75"H x 48.25"W. Sasha Rogers received her Masters of Painting in 1987 and was a painting instructor for twelve years. She has been primarily focused on solo exhibits and international art fairs and is in numerous private collections in Canada, the USA and Europe. Rogers' works has been influenced by the work of William Turner, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Antoni Tapies, and her father Otto Rogers. What collectively draws her to these great artists is their dedication to evocative metaphors rather than literal descriptions. She states, "They invite rather than prescribe."

  • "Eruption" - Large Scale Color Field Abstract
    By Kristina Quinones
    Located in Soquel, CA
Wonderful large scale abstract painting on canvas on wood panel titled "Eruption", painting is wrapped around the edges. Has a hard high gloss finish. Signed on verso "Kristina Quinones '06." Image, 60"L x 48"H x 2.75"D. "My work challenges the boundary between control and uncertainty. The grounding I feel through my work is an expression of the space that exists between these two phenomena. I mix my color and pour my paint, unsure of the outcome. I pick up the panel and start to dance with the movement of the paint as it slides from one side to the next. As the layers of color accumulate on each painting, the opportunity to manipulate the space between control and uncertainty diminishes. A sense of urgency arises, which is expressed in the textured movement of color. Paradoxically, as the process unfolds, my desire to control dissipates, and I am left with the ambiguous feeling of uncertainty. This cycle is repeated endlessly, incessantly, as if my will alone could leave its imprint. Whereas in the past this ambiguity would disturb me, I now find the process reassuring. It is clear that, despite my best intentions, each piece will choose its own path." Kristina Quinones was born and raised in Connecticut. Received her bachelor's degree in Printmaking from the University of Connecticut in 2001 then moved to California. In 2005 she received her Masters of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute. Quinones has exhibited in group shows throughout the United States. Recently Quinones was awarded the Affiliate Program...

  • Mid Century Textural Color-Field Abstract in Royal Blue-Purple by Peter Witwer
    By Peter Witwer
    Located in Soquel, CA
Mid Century Textural Color-Field Abstract in Royal Blue-Purple by Peter Witwer A striking mid-century textural color-field abstract in a bold color palette of royal blue-purple by San Francisco artist Peter Witwer (American, 1928-1968). This highly textured mixed media piece, c.1960's, uses a monochromatic palette that is divided into two areas of varying textural depths. The lower part of the canvas verges on sculptural, as the textured surface becomes almost three-dimensional and haunting forms emerge from the abstract purple-blue plane. Unsigned. From a collection of the artist's works. Displayed in a painted wood slate frame. Frame has been painted by the artist and is considered part of the artwork. Linen size: 26"H x 22"W. Framed size: 27"H x 23"W x 1.2"D Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of the artist's work. Provenance: Without a will and a family that had little interest in his art, nearly all of his possessions and close to 100 paintings were turned over to SF’s Conservators Office. His friend, Albert Richard Lasker, purchased all of Peter’s possessions (including the art) and has taken care of them until this day, always sensing there was something remarkable about the collection. Wanting Peter’s work to finally be seen, Richard came to Lost Art Salon with Peter’s story after reading about the new gallery in a July, 2005 issue of the SF Chronicle. Born George Peter...
