SOPHIE DUMONT
La côte fleurie, Blue Seaside, Normandy, Beach, Oil on canvas, Expressionism

2023

About the Item

"Landscape, seascape, between sky and sea, painting of a beach in Normandy with a cloudy sky treated with oil and knife and brush. Sophie Dumont paints the seashores in a semi-abstract manner, keeping only the essentials of what she sees. Sky and sea eventually merge. Capturing the present moment, the fleeting and changing light, is the artist's challenge. The multiple layers of paint painstakingly elaborate transparencies from which lights emerge. The artist strives to translate the movement of clouds, the variations of light, and air. Figurative painting approaching impressionism. Sophie DUMONT explores the Norman universe. She persistently probes the slightest vibrations of this familiar environment. She tackles other themes such as books or horses that are part of her life. One of art's missions, which is to aim for happiness through emotion, cannot adequately achieve its goal in painting through the mimetic representation of the image or motif, whatever its source may be. It is precisely in this approach that Sophie Dumont's journey lies. Transcending nature through material, color, and light. This painting is framed with a black wooden American box, but you can request a natural wood box. The frame measures: 19.68 x 23.22 in with a depth of 1.57 in Sophie Dumont's works are part of private collections worldwide. Among her collectors are celebrities. She has been exhibited in a French museum. Signed at the bottom right. Delivered with a certificate of authenticity."

His first works were exhibited at the Salon des Independents, in the years 1930-33. Grau Sala was essentially a Mediterranean painter, son of post-impressionism and enriched with French painting of the last fifty years. Grau Sala lived and absorbed all the avant-garde movements that broke through in Paris, but never adhered to any. Creating your personal style. His pictorial lyricism and naturalism superimposed the evotative and sensitive quality of the image to any other concern. In 1953 Grau Sala spends his first summer in Honfleur becoming one of the most active Honflerian painters.
