About the Item
Spring Fields IV is another painting from a series based upon a view looking across fields to a wood very close to my home. My aim was to capture something of the luscious bounty and abundant energy of the spring landscape by using vibrant colours and applying thick oil paint with bold, sweeping brushstrokes.
Suzanne Winn is available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. I am a landscape artist living in rural Hampshire. Central to my work is a desire to tap into the energy I feel when I am within the landscape. This energy for me brings a sense of movement and freedom, and a feeling of connection. I often revisit the same locations to work, so I can get to know these places intimately. A core aim for me is to convey something of how it feels to be within these spaces, and my emotional responses to experiencing nature in this way.
The first stage in my artistic process is to go out and draw within the landscape, using charcoals and/or pastels. I use charcoals to create tonal studies and pastels to lay down colour. I work rapidly, focusing on key shapes, tones and colours, and trying to capture the energy and feeling of the moment. Back in the studio I paint in oils from my sketches and memory. I typically choose a limited colour palette and mix up lots of paint as I think about and plan the work. When painting, I like to work quickly, instinctively and intuitively, focusing on conveying atmosphere and emotion.

Suzanne Winn
Suzanne Winn is a landscape artist living in rural Hampshire, England. Central to her work is a desire to tap into the energy she feels when she is within the landscape. This energy brings a sense of movement and freedom, and a feeling of connection. She likes to revisit the same locations repeatedly, so she really can get to know these places intimately and she aims to go out drawing every week. Back in the studio, Suzanne paints in oils from her sketches, memory, and photographs taken whilst out working and walking in the fields. Her limited but flexible colour palette is deployed “alla prima”, thereby adopting a wet-on-wet approach, often layering up thick, impasto layers of paint in a single painting session. Suzanne exhibits regularly : November 2020 - January 2021: New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham - Winter Exhibition September / October 2020: Surrey Artists’ Open Studios September 2020 - November 2020: New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham - Painting Farnham exhibition 2019/2020: New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham - Winter Exhibition 2019: Alresford Arts Festival 2019: Surrey Artists’ Open Studios 2018: Surrey Artists’ Open Studios 2017: Surrey Artists’ Open Studios.

TECHNOLOGY OF DIRT & AIR - Oil & Canvas Abstract Floral Painting
By Jered Sprecher
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
A companion painting to this piece, TECHNOLOGY OF DIRT is owned by the Knoxville Museum of Art.
The painting "TECHNOLOGY OF DIRT & AIR" was inspired by an image glanced as I passed by a florist shop window. Inside the florist show was a vibrant floral arrangement overflowing with roses and foliage.
On the surface of the window were reflections of architecture behind me and abstracted slivers of light and distorted shapes of things reflected though hardly recognizable. I snapped a few photographs at the time.
Several months later, I returned to those images and was intrigued at how the flowers in the image seemed to be made out of crystal and how the reflections on the window "interrupted" the ability to easily make out the forms in the photograph. I was intrigued by the complexity of the image and how recognizable elements emerged and then faded into abstraction. As I worked on this painting, I wanted it to be as if it was coming into crisp focus, while also becoming a complicated tapestry of shapes and colors. I have made six paintings in this series thus far.
Jered Sprecher is a visual artist who was born in Lincoln, Nebraska (1976). He received his M.F.A. from the University of Iowa and his B.A. from Concordia University in Nebraska. He has taught at Princeton University and Cornell University. Mr. Sprecher currently lives and works in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he is an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee.
Jered Sprecher’s studio practice explores the “handwriting” of humankind. The vocabulary that he draws from is focused on the vast array of marks and images in one’s surroundings. From this vocabulary he samples visual motifs and imports them into his paintings and drawings. These works continually focus on remnants and fragments that are captured in the midst of change, then edited and fused together in the space of painting. These images are pregnant with a longing to communicate. The success and failure of these “messages in a bottle” are the basis of his work.
Mr. Sprecher has had solo exhibitions at Wendy Cooper Gallery, Chicago; Jeff Bailey Gallery, New York; the Art Gallery of Knoxville; The Cress Gallery-UTC, Chattanooga; and Steven Zevitas Gallery, Boston. His work has also been included in group exhibitions at The Drawing Center, New York; Brooklyn Academy of Music (Next Next Art), New York; Cheekwood Museum of Art, Nashville; Des Moines Art Center; Urban Institute for Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids; Arthouse, Austin; Mark Moore Gallery...
