About

A small group of four people share the land with three black birds and three horses -- blue, gold and lime green -- in a sublime Yukon landscape painting articulated in ribbons of brilliant tangerine orange, yellow, pink, violet and blue.

Harrison developed his style of bold colors and simple forms during his years in the Yukon where he worked as a teacher and painted between 1967 and 1993.

Harrison died in 2015. His paintings have been achieving strong prices at auction. A record was set in August 2017 when a similarly sized piece from this Yukon series obtained $52000 USD at auction.

His colorful images have illustrated books including volumes of Robert Service poems, The Cremation of Sam McGee and The Shooting of Dan McGrew. Harrison's commissions include mural work for the Yukon Pavilion at Expo '86, the Yukon Legislature, the University of Victoria and stained glass windows for Christ Church Cathedral in Whitehorse and St. Margaret's Church, New Zealand. His work is in many private collections including that of President Ronald Reagan.

In 1987 Harrison was made a Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions to Canadian culture. He also held honorary doctorates from Athabasca University (1991), the University of Victoria (1998) and the University of Alberta (2005). He was made a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
