About the Item
Original river rapids landscape by the Venezuelan artist, Tomas L. Golding.
Oil on canvas laid down on board. Signed lower left by the artist Circa 1955. Condition is good. The painting is housed in a 1.25 inch wide off white wood frame with gold leaf reveal. Overall framed measurements are 20.5 by 23.5 inches. Provenance:: A Nokomis, Florida collector.
Tomas L. Golding is known for Modernist style landscape painting. Tomás L. Golding was born in Caracas, Venezuela on August 10, 1909 and died there in 1981. He began as a private pupil of Antonio Alcántara in 1920, and was admitted at the Academia de Bellas Artes de Caracas in 1922.
He continued his studies in New York at Cooper Union, and in 1931 he returned to Venezuela for the rest of his life. His art work can be categorized as the School of Caracas; always concerned about the movement and the light, as was characteristic of that school. He showed his artwork at the Museum of Beautiful Arts, the same institution that in 1967 dedicated a retrospective to him.
