Tracy Helgeson
New Painter's Farm: Contemporary Landscape Painting of a Red & White Barn

2017

About the Item

Minimal, modern landscape of an architectural white and red barn on a country farm oil on birch panel, 18 x 24 inches Ready to hang as is, no frame required, edges of the panel are painted soft black This modern American landscape painting was made by Hudson Valley artist, Tracy Helgeson. Here the artist channels influences from the American Realist and Color Field movements, most notably, the work of Edward Hopper and Mark Rothko, respectively. A large graphically rendered red and white barn sit in the foreground on a green lawn of a country farm. A bright blue sky illuminates the background. Faint, illegible calligraphy is written into the surface in the upper right corner and below the red barn. The artist likes to include this writing to suggest a handwritten note, a detail that adds a more personal and intimate atmosphere to the painting. A small red, crimson colored border is revealed along the edge of the painting. The horizontal oriented painting measures 18 x 24 inches and has black painted sides so it's ready to hang as is. The artist's signature is located on the back along with d-ring and sturdy wire for installation. About the Artist: Tracy Helgeson is inspired by the architecture of the landscape. The softly rolling hills, winding country roads and shimmering poplar trees surrounding her home outside Cooperstown offer sanctuary and stimulation for this one-time graphic designer/illustrator. Many viewers will recognize the overtones of painters Hans Hoffman, Wolf Kahn and Mark Rothko in Helgeson's luminous paintings. Although Helgeson borrows from the visual languages of these established artists, she also adds a distinctly personal inflection to her work. She is closest in feel to Kahn - in the choice and use of her colors and tendency for strong diagonal compositions. Though pictorial interpretations of the landscape are also common for both artists, Helgeson isn't afraid to venture into abstraction. There is a dissonance of color and contrast in some of these paintings that couldn't work in the hands of a less capable artist. Helgeson's paintings are not Currier and Ives-like portrayals of the landscape. They are the images that linger in your mind's eye after an autumn sunset or a drive by a wheat field on a hot summer day; you recall everything as being a little more vivid, a little brighter and turned up a notch or two so you won't forget it. Tracy Helgeson was born in Minnesota, in 1964. She attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1983, majoring in Graphic Design. She also attended the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) where she studied illustration. Philadelphia was a great influence on Tracy and it was there that her work began to take on a unique style. She also learned the under painting skills and glazing techniques that distinguish her current work. In 2003, Tracy and her family moved to upstate New York. With the children in school, she has finally been able to devote more time and energy to her personal work. Tracy began painting landscapes, greatly inspired by the natural beauty surrounding the farmhouse that she lives and works in. • Russian Modernist Сityscape Venetian Motive early 20th century Oil Painting
    Located in Stockholm, SE
Signed lower left: Vasily (Wilhelm) Filippovich Levi (1878 - 1954). The uncommon view of Venice was depicted by gifted artist in even more modernism manner than his other works of same period. IMO this one worth special acceptance being very rare and highly desired masterwork. The scorching sun gilds the sparkling expanse of the canal with its rays. At this hour the city is empty. Calm waves gently lap against the keel of the gondola. The artist perfectly transferred to the canvas the atmospheric idyll and romantic magic of old Venice. Oil painting on wood, signed, framed. Size app.: 47 x 64 cm (roughly 18.5 x 25.2 in) and beautiful antique frame ca 64.5 x 81 cm (roughly 25.4 x 31.9 in). Very Good condition, ready to hang condition, age wear (just minor wear to frame finish). Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 3.2 kg is going to measure some 5 kg packed for shipment. V. F. Levi - lawyer, collector, and also an artist. He spent his childhood in Riga, studied at the Alexander Gymnasium. He graduated from the 1st Kharkov Gymnasium (1899) and the Faculty of Law of Kharkov University. In 1916 he moved to Terijoki, built a house there and decided to devote himself to art. In 1918, on the advice of I. I. Brodsky, he showed his works to I. E. Repin and received his approval. After some time, he became Repin's confidant: during 1919-1930, he organized more than 50 Repin exhibitions in Helsinki, Prague, The Hague, Hamburg, Nice, Cannes and other European cities. In 1930-1939 he lived in Paris. In 1930 he participated in the Exhibition of Paintings by Russian Masters...
