UnknownCapriccio After Luigi Vanvitelli
Original 18th century oil painting on canvas of classical ancient Roman ruins, in the manner of Luigi Vanvitelli. The painting was actually attributed to Vanvitelli by the noted scholar, professor G. Fiocco of Venice in December, 1964. Professor Fiocco was a leading expert on 14th-18th Century Italian art who has since passed and could not be contacted for confirmation. More recent research by a restorer did not agree with the attribution. The canvas in its period carved wood and gilded Italian frame.
