Crowded Hunting Scene in Wooded Landscape 19th century Oil Painting Signed

e.g. 1850-1860

About the Item

Signed lower centre “H. Vernet” presumably leads to French painter Émile Jean-Horace Vernet (1789 - 1863) more commonly known as simply Horace Vernet. “Lost Track” - This captivating autumn landscape with a hunting scene known as "par force" (or French: "chasse à Courre"), transports the viewer to the realm of French hunting grounds. Where, against the backdrop of a majestic forest, picturesque ancient oaks are depicted, hills stretching into the endless distance in the rays of the setting sun, giving a sense of depth and perspective to this artwork. At the heart of this artistic plot lies the moment of a hunt, where a pack of dogs, typically fierce and resolute in their pursuit, now find themselves in a state of confusion, having lost the track of their elusive prey in the water. To the left of the pack, a group of nobles on elegant steeds arrives on the scene, their aristocratic and reserved demeanor contrasting sharply with the chaos unfolding before them. The hunters appear to be faced with a decision, perhaps pondering their next move in light of the unexpected turn of events. The tension in the air is palpable, adding an element of intrigue to the scene. Our gaze is also attracted by a carriage drawn by four majestic snow-white horses with servants on the box, carrying two ladies wearing white dresses and hats. Their presence brings a sense of sophistication and grace, adding balance to the plot. What are they discussing, we wonder? Are they deliberating on the current predicament of their Cavaliers, or are they simply observing with a sense of detached curiosity? In this artwork, the artist skillfully combines elements of landscape painting and narrative storytelling, creating a canvas with an abundance of details, richness of color and play of light and shadow. Antique oil painting on canvas, signed, unframed. Size app.: 65 x 81 cm (roughly 25.6 x 31.9 in). Overall in very good ready to hang condition with minimal wear, repairs, retouches, relined canvas. He was born to Carle Vernet, another famous painter, who was himself a son of Claude Joseph Vernet. He was born in the Paris Louvre, while his parents were staying there during the French Revolution. Vernet quickly developed a disdain for the high-minded seriousness of academic French art influenced by Classicism, and decided to paint subjects taken mostly from contemporary culture. Over the course of his long career, Horace Vernet was honoured with dozens of important commissions. King Louis-Philippe was one of his most prolific patrons, and the whole of the Constantine room at the Palace of Versailles was decorated by him, in the short space of three years. Critics marvelled at the incredible speed with which he painted. Many of his paintings made during this early phase of his career were "noted for their historical accuracy as well as their charged landscapes". After the fall of the July Monarchy during the Revolution of 1848, Vernet discovered a new patron in Napoléon III. Vernet died in his hometown of Paris in 1863.

Windmill and Shepherd Boy Landscape Collaboration Two Famous Norwegian Artists
Located in Stockholm, SE
Сollaboration work by two Norwegian artists: Morten Müller (1828 - 1911) and Olaf Christopher Dahl (1842 - 1895). Painted approximately in late 19th century (ca. 1870 - 1880). The collaboration of two renowned Norwegian artists in this landscape is an example of the fusion of their talent and skill. A very interesting compositional solution, where among the hills buried in vegetation, a lowland with a small pond is depicted, where a young shepherd has brought his cow to the watering hole. In the distance, on the hill, a windmill is visible, creating an emphasis on the perspective and depth of the composition. The nuanced interplay of light and shadow adds of complexity to the scene. The calmness of the pastoral setting below contrasts markedly with presence of gloomy clouds looming above. This juxtaposition creates a harmonious balance, presenting a duality inherent in nature. And this rare and awesome work of art should be considered for museum collection as well. Both painters presented in National Museum Oslo, Norway. Size app.: 46 x 69 cm (roughly 18.1 x 27.2 in), with frame 60 x 84 cm cm (roughly 23.6 x 33.1 in). Good condition with wear, tiny losses to paint in minor areas and craquelure. So it needs minor care and conservation. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 4.4 kg is going to measure some 6 kg volume weight packed for shipment. Morten Müller began his art studies with Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 1847 to 1848. From 1850 he was again a student at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer as a teacher. From 1850 to 1851, Müller painted with the Swedish landscape painter Marcus...

Animal scene Duck hunting with dogs 18th century Swedish Master by Philip Korn
Located in Stockholm, SE
Monogrammed lower left: Johan Philip Korn (1728 - 1796), was a Swedish painter. A beautiful landscape, with a backwater in which carefree ducks swim, hunters and their dogs in passion, in the background you can see a city with a bell tower. Old masters have been depicting animals in their paintings since the Renaissance. In those days, hunting scenes were popular - there is always a share of emotional participation in them. Here it is necessary to understand that in previous centuries people looked at hunting as a means of obtaining food, therefore naturalism dominates in the painting of the old masters. Old oil painting on wooden panel, in a non-original frame of the 19th century. Size app.: 49 x 64 cm (roughly 19.3 x 25.2 in) and nice golden gesso frame ca 65.5 x 81.5 cm (roughly 25.8 x 32.1 in). Very Good condition, age wear, cracks on a wooden board, minor losses, retouches, cleared and conserved. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 6.4 kg is going to measure some 10 kg volume weight packed for shipment. Johan Philip Korn first began his career as a decorative painter. He was a student of artist Johan Sevenbom (1721-1784). After further studies he changed to landscape painting in the Rococo style of French artist François Boucher (1703–1770) and often after Dutch copper engravings. In 1759, Korn became master of the Stockholm...

Feeding a Calf Lovely Farm Scene with Redhead Girl mid 19th Century Oil Painting
Located in Stockholm, SE
As we gaze upon this artwork, we are immediately struck by the warmth and tenderness exuding from the scene. The woman, with a gentle smile on her face, carefully feeds the pet calf, while the redhead girl, her eyes sparkling with excitement, reaches out to touch the adorable creature. The artist's attention to detail is impeccable, with each brushstroke conveying a sense of life and movement to the painting. Nevertheless, the beauty of this painting lies not only in its technical prowess but also in the emotions it evokes. Visual research gets us to authorship of Walter Goodall (1830 - 1889) an British painter. But since the painting is not signed apparently – it is hard to state for sure. Antique oil painting on canvas with stamp for 'Brodie & Middleton, 79 Long Acre...
