Fishing At The Four Arches, Bingley, Yorkshire, dated 1849 Joseph Clayton Bentley (1809-1851) Large 19th Century English river fishing landscape at The Four Arches, Bingley, Yorkshire, oil on canvas by Joseph Clayton Bentley. Excellent quality and condition example of the artists work capturing anglers on the River Aire. Signed, dated and inscribed with artist exhibition labels verso. Presented in its original antique gilt frame. Measurements: 52" x 38" framed approx Provenance: L.H.Lefèvre & Son, London; Ian MacNicol, Glasgow, 1971 Artist Biography Joseph Clayton Bentley engraved numerous English masters' works such as the three pieces by A.W. Calcott for the Vernon Collection: Wooden Bridge, The Road into Pisa from Leghorn [Livorno] and Sea Coast; later, he engraved Valley Farm and Rising Sun after Gainsborough. Having first worked on landscapes, he came to London in 1832 and refined his techniques under Brandard. Le Blanc records under his name three plates after W.H. Bartlett, C. Bentley and J. Salmon for Mediterranean Islands and Beaches; plates for Picturesque and Historical Greece and Cumberland (Airey Force) after T. Allom. He exhibited at the British Institution from 1833 to 1851 and at the Royal Academy from 1846 to 1852.
