About the Item

an interesting view oil on board view of the arch of Constantine, portrayed from the Via Sacra with the ruins of the Meta Sudans, an ancient roman fountain in which according to an ancient legend, gladiators went to wash themselves. The name comes from its shape which represented the goal around which the chariots had to turn in circus competitions, and sudans because it seemed to sweat: in fact, the bronze ball that surmounted it was riddled with holes from which water came out. Painted in a careful and accurate way represent a typical example of the style grand tour style in which the observer can make an ideal trip to Rome . The Arch of Constantine, is the most important triumphal arch in Rome and was been dedicated to the emperor Constantine the Great, was commissioned by the Roman Senate to commemorate Constantine's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in AD 312. Situated between the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill, the arch spans the Via Triumphalis, the route taken by victorious military leaders when they entered the city in a triumphal procession.
