About the Item

A very interesting painting that show a view of the Palazzo del Quirinale and Palazzo della Consulta. The artist portrait an important description of these buildings placing emphasis on details that can let the observer understand everything. The with flag of the reign of Italy, on the balcony on the main floor of the Palazzo della consulta on the right of the Quirinale give us the timeline of the painting because from 1871 to 1874 was the residence of the Price of the Crown and his wife Margherita di Savoia, at the flag was a painted to represents the importance of the illustrious resident as well as carriage with the white horses and the soldiers at the gate. The palace on the left, called il Quirinale, located on the Via del Quirinale and facing onto the Piazza del Quirinale, was built in 1583 by Pope Gregory XIII as a papal summer residence. The Pope, who wanted to find a location which was far away from the humidity and stench coming from the River Tiber and likewise the unhealthy conditions of the Lateran Palace, chose the Quirinal hill as it was one of the most suitable places in Rome. On the site, there was already a small villa owned by the Carafa family and rented to Luigi d'Este. The Pope commissioned the architect Ottaviano Mascherino to build a palace with porticoed parallel wings and an internal courtyard by incorporating the Carafa villa, the original nucleus of the palace, later known as the Gregorian building. That project was not fully completed due to the Pope's death in 1585. However, it is still recognisable in the north part of the courtyard, especially in the double loggia facade, topped by the panoramic Torre dei Venti (tower of the winds) or Torrino. To the latter, a bell tower was added according to a project by Carlo Maderno and Francesco BorrominThe Quirinal Palace is an historic building in Rome, Italy, one of the three current official residences of the President of the Italian Republic, located on the Quirinal Hill, the highest of the seven hills of Rome in an area colloquially called Monte Cavallo. It has served as the residence for thirty popes, four kings of Italy and twelve presidents of the Italian Republic. The Quirinal Palace was selected by Napoleon to be his residence par excellence as emperor. However, he never stayed there because of the French defeat in 1814 and the subsequent European Restoration. A sign of signature on the bottom side

His first painting, "The Shepherd" (French: Le pâtre), was sold at the Triennale in Ghent. In 1888, when he was only 15 years old, he made his debut at the "Salon des Champs-Elysées" in Paris with his monumental work "The Launch of the Argo" (French: Le lancement...
