Landscape Oil Painting View Of Pantheon Rome Italian School Late 19th Century

after 1800

About the Item

an impressive view of Pantheon in Rome an Italian School landscape oil painting of late 19th century; the artist made a perfect storytelling and give the opportunity to the observer to of having an exact vision of Rome as it was at the end of the 19th century; notable the study of the light that is a a faultless performance of art and also the general narration which also concerns details such as the characters' clothes, the fabrics of the shop curtains and the perfect representation of the shadows. It is also important to note that the Pantheon is represented with "ears of donkey" a pair of bell towers attribuited to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, it belong a certain period of time because were been demolished in around 1882. The Pantheon built as a temple dedicated to all past, present and future deities, was founded in 27 BC. by Marco Vipsanio Agrippa, son-in-law of Augustus, who dedicated it to the goddess Cybele and all the gods. It was rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian presumably from 112-115 until 124 AD. approximately, after the fires of 80 and 110 AD. they had damaged the previous construction from the Augustan age. It is composed of a circular structure joined to a pronaos in Corinthian columns (eight at the front and two groups of four in the second and third row) which support a pediment. The large circular cell, called the rotunda, is surrounded by thick masonry walls and eight large pillars on which the weight of the characteristic hemispherical concrete dome is distributed which houses at its apex a circular opening called the oculus, which allows for lighting of the internal environment. The height of the building calculated at the oculus is equal to the diameter of the rotunda, a characteristic that reflects the classic criteria of balanced and harmonious architecture. Almost two millennia after its construction, the intradosed dome of the Pantheon is still one of the largest domes in the world, and specifically the largest built in Roman concrete. At the beginning of the 7th century the Pantheon was donated by the eastern emperor Phocas to Pope Boniface IV and was converted into a Christian basilica and on 13 May 602 it took the name of Santa Maria ad Martyres, which allowed it to survive almost intact to the spoliations suffered by other buildings of classical Rome. It enjoys the rank of minor basilica and is the only basilica in Rome other than the patriarchal ones to still have a chapter. The inhabitants of Rome popularly called it la Rotonna ("the Roundabout"), from which the name of the square and the street in front also derive.

His first painting, "The Shepherd" (French: Le pâtre), was sold at the Triennale in Ghent. In 1888, when he was only 15 years old, he made his debut at the "Salon des Champs-Elysées" in Paris with his monumental work "The Launch of the Argo" (French: Le lancement...
